libkdtree vs. BKD-Tree

Hi,

after having  written Python bindings for the BKD-Tree implmentation in the 
TPIE project http://www.cs.duke.edu/TPIE/ (idle for 2 years now).
Basically it implements http://citeseer.ist.psu.edu/procopiuc02bkdtree.html 
besides other approaches.

As it seems to be stalled I wonder, whether libkdtree-dev provides similar 
functionality. Can someone compare them?
