It is also not working on Debian. Actually, I am not sure whether it
ever worked. I recommend you to use any other program that can take
screenshot. They will make the some pictures, but offer much more
flexibility. For example:

gkrellshoot - Plugin for gkrellm to lock the screen and make screenshots
gnome-screenshot - screenshot application for GNOME
gpe-screenshot - screenshot application for GPE
screenie-qt - fancy screenshot composer
shutter - feature-rich screenshot program
xfce4-screenshooter - screenshots utility for Xfce
