This sounds like as if it could be due to a bashism in the script, which
got exposed now because Ubuntu / Debian use dash as the default sh.

Does this file start with #!/bin/bash ? If not, then you can hardcode it
and see if this helps.

If it doesn't help, of course, it may then be a genuine problem with the
script, or variables being set to unexpected values, or the way you use
it, etc.
