no, I reject this one as is.
it's gcc specific to gcc, so has to be tied some way to autodetecting if
we're running gcc...
Moreover, there is no need for a 2nd loop. You can add this in the gendb
mainloop, which make things cleaner, ie

always keep in mind that nut runs on a lot of platform, and should continue.
Even if gcc is a kind of standard, we can't force our users to compile nut
with it...
If you make your patch conditional, and/or find equivalence for other
compiler/platform, then this patch will be approved.

whenever a temp development is approved, associated tags should be
removed...

I've not had time to dig this yet (some Debian and MGE things to deal with),
but there would be some points missing:
- Index. This is a param to differentiate 2 devices with exactly the same
info (ie same VID/ PID, no serial, ...). Then you could say "the 2nd device
with VID xxxx and PID yyyy"
- an interesting notion that was introduced by Dave Brownell (linux USB
hacker) is the "physical path" (stable ids, which don't change unless usb
topology morphs). For more info, search for HIDIOCGPHYS in hidups.
I find this interesting, but I'm not sure it has been ported...
This also improves the logic of device opening and reopening. The

I had a todo for this: put hid2nut and usages tables in external data files,
loaded at initups/initinfo time. I'm not sure it's really interesting, on a
sizing level, but the external usage table was part of a libhid todo. So if
we have something portable, why not using it...
continue your good work,
