I very much encourage you to do so.
it has already been done for many nut drivers, and is part of the goal
to improve maintainability / footprint by reducing the code size.
There are various approaches, but Charles should already know these...

Nicholas and Charles: do you think you would be in time for 2.4
(around september)?
