I'd be happy to add additional autoconf magic if people complain that  
this doesn't work for them anymore. But note that the SSL support is  
still a largely undocumented feature. It isn't mentioned in the sample  
configuration files either, so I question if this is a widely used  
thing anyway. We'll see.
