That was the problem. I needed to set up udev to take care of the device
permissions. Now the only thing I really need to do is mess around with my
init scripts. upsdrvctl doesn't want to start from the init.d/nut start
script. Thank you for all the help. If anyone is interested in more detail
on anything I did feel free to ask.
