The ups.conf should look something like this.
[pw5110]
driver = bcmxcp_usb
port = auto
shutdown_delay = 60
desc = "USB ups"
Now try to start the driver like this.
/sbin/bcmxcp_usb -a pw5110
If it spit out something like this
--------
Network UPS Tools - BCMXCP UPS driver 0.11 (2.0.5)
Model = POWERWARE UPS 500VA
Firmware = Cont:00.80 Inve:00.60
Shutdown delay = 60 seconds

Then it is ok. If not then check the you have the right
udev rules installed.
