Thanks for the replies guys.
I updated to NUT 2.4.1, and tried the megatec driver (with the rts and dtr
sub options) but no combination of 1 and 0 seemed to work. I made sendpace
10,20,500 and 1000, but none worked. The blazer drivers gave me:
/lib/nut/blazer_ser -DDD -a UPS1
Network UPS Tools - Megatec/Q1 protocol serial driver 1.51 (2.4.1)
debug level is '3'
Trying megatec protocol...

blaser_usb gave me

No appropriate HID device found
No supported devices found. Please check your device availability with
'lsusb'
and make sure you have an up-to-date version of NUT. If this does not help,
try running the driver with at least 'subdriver', 'vendorid' and 'productid'
options specified. Please refer to the man page for details about these
options
(man 8 blazer).

I took some more photos of the inside of the UPS. Would it help to post
them? I will also try and get another serial USB converter, to just check
if that might be the problem.
Thanks.
