I use serial for my 1500AVR, and USB for a smaller Cyberpower device, 
setting up the serial is a lot easier, in my experience, than the USB, 
unless you are good with USB on linux (Crash course for me, and lots of 
googling).

Other than that, rock solid on the serial cable.
