Hi Sabine,

I think I should warn against emptying lead-acid batteries, please  
forgive me if it wasn't useful:

The lifetime of batteries lead-acid goes down as a function of time  
and how de-charged the battries are.

So you should charge the batteries again ASAP after a de-charge situation.
