Kjell explained what you need to do to disable the HAL driver, but to  
answer your question above: yes, usbfs is the Linux kernel driver  
eventually used by most of the *_usb drivers in NUT (indirectly,  
through libusb).

In general, if your UPS does not get detected by the kernel as a USB- 
to-serial driver, then it will be accessed through libusb and usbfs.
