see my fresher post with a 4th attempt. The old install was also a home
built 2.7.4 which I still have in a separate directory. It dates from
june 2018 and despite stopping it, and 3 previous make installs, the
starter files in /etc/init.d are still dated june 2018.

should I cd back to the 2.7.4 src and do a sudo make uninstall?

Cheers, Gene Heskett.
