zero length field name

I had this problem too. Patch [1] by Allan worked great (I just apparently only
told Allan how great it worked, but never told the list).

I haven't checked your patch, and I'm not the one to judge what patch is the
"better", but I can tell you the patch by Allan works for me. :)
