Anything is inferior to darcs regarting to merging capability.
I like darcs a lot but would be good to you check the current
alternatives. The ones that I know are:
 - git / cogito
 - bzr (bazaar-ng)
 - darcs
 - svn / svk
Personally I prefer bzr, git or darcs.

po4a is the way I found to allow people to translate the manpages and
gettext cannot do that.
