merged and soon pushed and running on piatti.

One comment, there is [ -h $FILE ] in there (which is fine), but I would have 
used [ -L $file ], simply because "L" reminds me of link, while "h" doesnt.

Any reason to use one or the other?

Of course, _h_ is a lovely letter too :-)
