Bug#905268: at-spi2-core: key repeat causes a blocked system

Package: at-spi2-core
Version: 2.28.0-3
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

if pressing the cursor up/down keys for two to three seconds the mouse cursor starts moving and neither keyboard nor mouse input is possible
this also happens if the keyrepeat functionality is disabled in the xfce4 configuration
/var/log/messages shows the following error:

org.a11y.Bus[7817]: XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":1"
org.a11y.Bus[7817]: after 21 requests (21 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

thus I am guessing the problem is related to at-spi2-core
only solution I found so far is closing the laptop lid to shutdown it and reopening the lid
