It checks if the acpid script still exists, and if not it shuts down
the computer.

Yes, but not useful. The system is suspended and shut down afterwards
(on resume).

I have installed the package and modified the script to make my
computer suspend to disk instead.

And it has caused me so many problems so far that I am seriously
considering the option of rolling my own. I do not need anything
fancy, and the package is apparently trying to do more than I want
which is detrimental to the basic functionality.
