You are absolutely right of course. And I guess I, as the maintainer of both of
these source packages, look pretty stupid. Sorry, for the confusion, I guess I
blame it on the jetlag. :)

Anyway, now the question is how do I install and enable acpid.path? Are
dh_systemd_enable and friends able to handle .path files?
