My very last attempts before leaving work was stopping/restarting
hotplug....

My other concern is not needing to run alsaconf as, IIRC, it does not
have a way to be run non interactively (wishlist?).


Anyway, thanks for your pointers which will probably help orting this
out...and maybe help improving ALSA support in default installs.
