I can answer both. In case my original message wasn't clear enough, I'll
just write the same again, but in more detail.

Gstreamer's playbin:
Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...
Pipeline is PREROLLING ...
Pipeline is PREROLLED ...
Setting pipeline to PLAYING ...
New clock: GstSystemClock
[Nothing happens after this. Normally it would print "New clock:
audioclock2" instead of the previous line.]

Totem-xine opens the file and then complains that it has no video, so it
can't play it (it's an MP3). No output is seen on the console.

Aplay is the most verbose, but it just confirms what wine already told
us before:
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:846:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to create IPC shm
instance
aplay: main:550: audio open error: Invalid argument
