2.6.24 comes with:
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.15 (Tue Nov 20 19:16:42 2007 UTC).
No module rebuild necessary ;)

No. The damn f...... intel_hda chips are existing in many, many
flavours. Dell wants his own, Lenovo, mainbord producers .....
It is not easy for the alsadevelopers to make this chips working.
But hey, not only on i386.
