I don't use it presently. It is fairly unlikely I will in
the foreseeable future either. It won't be a problem to
disable it for the time being (the BIOS doesn't allow me to
do that, however).

Oh, ye olde days !

Well, this laptop's been apt-get upgraded over the years all
the way from Sarge, I think (I never did anything weird to
it, though). It was usually running Testing being upgraded a
few weeks after each Stable got released. So this file may
well have been left over at one stage or another.

Done. Makes no difference (as can be expected).

That's never been a problem. Sound works just fine both
before and after removing the snd_intel8x0m module.
