[Pkg-alsa-devel] Bug#537363: Acknowledgement (alsa-utils: applications can no longer open audio device)

further investigation:

andy at debian:~$ alsamixer
No mixer elems found

andy at debian:~$ alsamixer -c1
<success!>

Need to change my default configuration to use card 1 instead of card 0.

Option 1:
http://alsa.opensrc.org/FAQ026

Option 2:
pass index=1 option in /etc/modprobe.d/ to the driver

Somehow the package manager broke this when it upgraded.
