Well asoundconf was in
  *  http://packages.debian.org/en/lenny/ia64/alsa-utils/filelist
but not anymore in
  *  http://packages.debian.org/en/sid/i386/alsa-utils/filelist
which is what I use, so I can't try it.

OK, I did
modprobe snd-hda-intel && speaker-test
but still didn't hear anything.
