Anyway, this all looks reasonable. You should be able to control
pcm amd master via alsamixer with no problems.

I don't have a CMI8738 card handy for testing.

Hmm, you must be thoughtful to notice a system event which causes
your bug. I can't help at this stage as there are no similar bugs
reported in the net.
