Please try the following:

$ mv $HOME/.asoundrc $HOME/.asoundrc.save
$ cat <<EOF > $HOME/.asoundrc
defaults.pcm.!device 3
defaults.ctl.!device 3
EOF

As root:

# service alsa-utils restart
