I am doing a build against testing for my systems, out of the same reasons.

Looking at the recent commit history I just see merges from other
branches, so it really seems development has been just "outsourced".

But I wish you all the luck in getting a satisfactory response, while at
the same time being somewhat pessimistic about it.

In the end Kern will have to deal with this, because what use is a nice
S3 storage plugin if nobody can use it, because their libs3 is either
too old (Ubuntu, Debian, RHEL/Centos 7) or too new (Arch, Gentoo, Fedora).

Grüße,
Sven.
