Thank you for your reply, Frank. My latest hunch because of probs running 
skype  is that it has somthing to do with a recompiled kernel of mine. Things 
hang after the client's benchmarking. I presume that it just does not get new 
work or so. The manager never successfully connects it.

It is the machine that I run at work, a new kernel did not boot up 
automatically so I am afraid it all has to wait until I am back from my 
vacation in mid August.
