Perhaps, but this is certainly more work to do than specifying
the correct flags to compilers and linkers. [1] There're API/ABI
compatibility issues, and it may take more than a manageable
set of debian patches to do it correctly, I'm afraid.

Anyway, I'm trying to learn more in this area. (But I don't have
enough knowledge to reach a conclusion for this problem, at
least for now.)
