Yes, I'm reading the same book since some months (in my almost zero free time) :)

When I import a new release I look for lib/api changes.

I look lib and api folders for:
-changes in prototypes
-changes in shared structs

I didn't see them so far, but can you please try to rebuild locally boinc-app-seti and see if you can reproduce the crash?
