Well, it's helping insofar as it actually makes the package reproducible.

I agree though, that it's sort of a hack.

This bug is fixed in jessie's pbuilder (#700591) and worked-around by Holger
in the pbuilder used by the ReproducibleBuilds effort.

I don't mind fixing this properly, i.e. by removing the __DATE__ macro.
This seems to be sufficient to make the package reproducible without faketime.
Can you forward this __DATE__ problem to tomsfastmath upstream?
