Hi
I'm domcox, who made a few Gnomesword and Sword packages for Ubuntu.
As Daniel Glassey, I'm also a long-time user since i began to use
linux-based Bible software when the only one available was a small
program named Ksword (or Kdesword?) which evolved to become popular and
better known these days as Bibletime.
Qt, at that time, didn't use a completely free software license, so I
made the choice to use the Gnome Desktop since its very early days and
Gnomesword since its first release.
So I have a long history of using all these good packages of Sword,
Bibletime and Gnomesword provided by Daniel for years.
I thank you Daniel for all this great work.
I then became more or less involved in Gnomesword development and worked
mainly on translation and i18n issues, I maintain the French
translation.
As I wanted to use the very latest features of Gnomesword, I began to
build my own deb packages. When people asked for fresh packages on the
mailing-list, I made then public on my web site and people began to use
it.
But it's not a good answer. People needs 'Official' deb packages.
I'm not a developper and there is certainly more talented people on this
list than I am myself, but I think packaging Crosswire related software
is a complex task. Think about architectures, licensing issues, policy
and administrative tasks, differences between Debian and its
derivatives.. and so on.
I think it's too much work for a single man, and that we need to build a
team around Daniel to achieve this goal.
I'd be glad to help,
-- domcox
