I use and like bible-kjv very much, so I am happy to see interest in it
:-)

I know that the current maintainer has accepted patches and such in the
past.  I even submitted a patch a while back, if I recall correctly, to
get the package to build (without the stuff in the debian/ directory) on
Mac OS X, and it was accepted.  Is he no longer active or accepting
patches and such?

In any event, if you intend to NMU, I would announce your intention to
do so.  The procedures for versioning of NMUs of Debian native packages
is a little less clear than for normal non-native packages.  You can
Google for some information on it.
