Thanks Ben.  I unpacked the original source package, and the debian 
directory from the Sword package into the new source directory.  As you 
suggested, it built with no problems.  I'll go to the links you posted 
and see how to get more help.  Thanks again.  It really is appreciated.  
I'm hoping eventually to re-package updates to Sword, BibleTime and Xiphos.
