Oh yes, I did, and recovering the old initramfs makes the wireless work,
then aptly installing cryptsetup destroys it. The wireless works until I
switch it off with Fn+F2, and at that point it is just impossible to
turn back on.

The hotkey is just set to load/unload modules as far as I know, so if it
is a problem wit HAL then yeah, loading modules would be borked too. At
least these specific modules (ath_pci)
