How exactly do you 'recover' the old initramfs? I mean, do you restore
the initramfs from an old backup, or do you regenerate a new one just
without cryptsetup installed?
If you do the latter, and your wifi hotkey really works with an
initramfs created without cryptsetup installed while it stops working
with an initramfs _created_ (not copied back) five minutes later without
cryptsetup installed, then I'm willed to do further debugging for you.

At 'apt-get remove cryptsetup', a new initramfs should be created. If
that is not the case, please manually recreate your initramfs with
'update-initramfs -u [-t]'.

greetings,
