This has been seomthing which has been brought to our attention in the
past. The version of cyrus-sasl2 which shipped with Etch builds against
db4.2. Since then, we have updated to db4.4. If I recall correctly,
there were concerns expressed by people about db4.5 (poor performance)
and also db4.6 (possible performance issues, though I am not certain,
and also lack of maturity).

I seem to receall mention by someone on the list of using cyrus-sasl2 to
maintain an authentication of database of ~50,000 credentials. Now, I
forget if that posting came from one of the group members or from
someone who was just an interested user. However, with no perofmrance
testing, I am reluctant to apply the patch.
Unfurtonately, I am not capable to doing that testing myself either,
since I do not personally use the db features of cyrus-sasl2.

This might ease things somewhat. I will try and look into it. However,
I would feel better if one of the group members who is more familiar
with DB could chime in.
