Sorry, I think you missunderstood me because I was not clear: which
softare is responsible to read /u/s/applications/*.desktop files on the
fly, i.e. when they are changed? On Illume these files are shown on the
"desktop" and the bug is in this software.

FYI, I performed my tests on Illume with one single .desktop file per
Main Category in the specs above.

I talked about the E17 menu because it refers to a specific version of
the freedesktop.org Desktop Menu Specification, while there is nothing
in the efreet documentation.

On both problems?

The first one: it is true that applications in the Audio and Video
categories should be listed in the AudioVideo one as well, but what if
you have a separate Audio submenu? This will be empty, with all Audio
*only* applications in the AudioVideo submenu.

The second one: I failed to find an application only belonging to the
Settings category, thus I think all the applications in this category
specify the System category as well, thus they are shown in the System
submenu.

While both problems are sort of "solved", still the specs are clear and
efreet (or whatever software is responsibe for that) does not conform to
the specs.

FWIW, I have never tried that menu, so I cannot comment on it.

Thx, bye,
