that looks than more like a problem of KiCad itself or of the
integration of the NVidia driver. I probably can't do much here, there
is some upstream maintainer partipitation needed as they have more
experience in this specific part.

You can try to run your system with the Noveau driver and see if the
menu options are back then.

Of course there is nothing visible within strace if the shortcut options
aren't possible for whatever reason.
I can see some firework in the CLI if I hit one of the shortcuts and can
also see that some low level stuff is running before the Eeschema is
opened for example.

I was thinking of broken shortcut functionality too, but if you have
installed a fresh systen then no old KiCad settings are around in
$HOME/.config that could cause some strange behavior.

It's the best to open up a bug report in the upstream bug tracker as I
can't help much here and don't have an great idea right now.

Please report back the link to the upstream reports if there will get an
issue opened so we can track the status.
