Well, in the most recent version, I actually provide instructions to 
run the "greylistd-setup-exim4" utility, which in turn works whether 
Exim 4 uses split configuration files or not.  (As well as an example 
for those who want to edit their Exim 4 configuration files by hand). 
Because this is performed by the user, not in maintainer scripts, it 
should be OK as far as the Policy goes.

Yeah, I realize that.   I am actually hoping for something in the 
longer term - this would help not only me, but any package that needs 
to add items to the Exim 4 configuration (including, perhaps, the 
"exim4-daemon-heavy" package, if at some point it wanted to enable some 
of the Exiscan-ACL features by default).

Then again, this is just a wish.  Treat it as such.
