Hello,
The footnote is referenced from both client- and server-section. Thanks
for catching that, that is simply a leftover from the time when using
exim as AUTH /client/ required changing the transport.

The comments in exim4.conf.template or 30_exim4-config_examples
respectively describe the format.

There are numerous ways to generate crypted passwords most of them
