"smartuser" is one of the concepts that was removed in the transition
to exim 4.
I remember from the times when I was migrating from exim 3 to exim 4,
that it was a big help to run my old exim 3 configuration through the
update4r4 script just to find out what the tool meant to be a
replacement for some exim 3 constructs. I then used some of the ideas
I found in the converted config for the exim 4 configuration.
I guess that this would have helped you in finding a solution.
Additionally, I must say that pop3 multidrop setups need to die a
quick death.
