Those aliases were in /etc/aliases before this investigation began.
Seems odd that /etc/aliases and /etc/email-addresses have similar purposes.
Also odd that exim4 complains about email-addresses but has not read
aliases.

That is all in paniclog.
172.24.1.1 is the connection for a hub which allows connection of a
few machines of my local network. This seems the cause of failure
of exim4. But why does this binding fail? I am baffled here.

SMTP is needed here only for outgoing mail. Not for incoming mail. So
I suppose there is no problem with Shorewall. To my understanding the
problem hinges on 172.24.1.1.
