[pymvpa] Error with "from mvpa2.tutorial_suite import *"

This is because Python 2.6, which you are using, does not provide total_ordering. Python 2.7 and later does support it.

I wrote that code so I'm the one who should get most blame for it too. I'll have a look on how to fix this and keep you posted.
