Package: fglrx-driver
Version: 1:9-3-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

As I recently updated my monitors into 24" TFTs I noticed that I also
should to upgrade graphics card as the earlier ASUS Geforce 8500 Silent
had only DVI+VGA and I wanted two digital connections, thus I bought
this Sapphire Radeon HD 4670 Ultimate (RV730XT GPU) card. But I am having
hard time to get the drivers up and running. I managed to compile the
required kernel module for the self-built kernel image fine, but there
the success ended: if I run "aticonfig --initial=dual-head" that program
segmentation faults, in single user mode I got also following details
about the reason for this:
  aticonfig[nnn] general protection ip:b7bdd256 sp:bf9fde58 error:0 in
  libc-2.9.so[b7b6a000+15a000]

I have also tried manual editing on xorg.conf and the best result has
been that I get garbled screen, most of the time the result is that
system halts after starting X (screen briefly blinks white and then
black and also keyboard caps and screen lock lights blink). Also tried
kernel upgrade, but as reported also in another bug report compilation
of fglrx module fails on 2.6.29. I noticed also the udev related bug
about the missing device file and followed the hint there, but I still
get the same errors as earlier and I'm starting to be desperate enough
that I may soon switch back to the old graphics card...
