Umm.. Not really actually libglib2.0-dev is must dependency for the
fontforge. I missed it previously, it still worked because the
dependency got pulled in reverse dependencies of libcario2-dev and
libpango1-dev.

What broke was pdf2htmlex which build depends on libfontforge-dev as
there was no declaration of libglib2.0-dev in dependencies.

Now I added it in the build-depends and let d-devlibdeps do the job of
resolving dependencies from it :-).
