Debian is currently in a freeze phase to prepare the next stable release.
Once this is finished, the package currently in testing will be part of
Debian stable -- though reside in the contrib section, because it is
currently impossible to rebuild the font files entirely with free
software.

No problem. To get started, get yourself an account on salsa.debian.org,
fork the packaging and issue a merge request. If you want to get involved
more deeply, consider applying for a Debian Maintainer status.
