Alright, was worth a try.

Well, that's a rather drastic means to solve issues. A full directory 
diff of /etc/fonts between Debian 10 and 11 would have been interesting, 
but I guess that's not possible anymore.

Seems like you solved the issue by wiping out 
/usr/share/fonts/opentype/urw-base35 and not copying it back, because 
the Opentype variants of these fonts have just been added between Debian 
10 and 11.
