hi josef,
first of all, i consider the debian menu system as deprecated since
freedesktop.org released the desktop menu standard draft [1]. i looked
through their menu categories, and they also don't have a subcategory
for game-related menu entries. so i think things should be discussed
with freedesktop first.
on the other hand, is it really worth to extend the menu categories?
sure, all game-related tools/helper applications/etc. would fit under a
menu sub-entry like "game related tools", but in my eyes they do fit
well into the existing categories!
a map editor is still a software development tool, a network game
server scanner is still a network application - so i'm not sure if it's
worth adding an extra category for such applications. this might lead
to ambigous situations, because (don't take this too serious, please!)
gimp should also appear below "game related tools" as it can be used to
paint textures for games.
but i'm with you, if you say placing a level editor below "games" is
wrong. such an entry belongs elsewhere, i'd suggest it belonging to
software development.
cheers - fuddl
